In 2015, the New South Wales Minister for Transport Andrew Constance announced his plans to upgrade the Intercity trains in the South coast, Newcastle and Blue Mountains railway lines.
The upgrade has been criticised by Blue Mountains MP Trish Doyle, as maintenance of the existing track has caused community disruption, the reversible seats in the current V-set trains have been discarded and the 3.1 metre wide trains do not fit the 2.9 metre wide tracks.
