Newcastle will be one of the host cities for the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The joint bid from Australia and New Zealand was announced in June and the Hunter town of Newcastle cannot wait to host such a large-scale sporting event.
This will be a huge opportunity for the town and will put them on the international sporting map. Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Claire Coelho speaks of her excitement of having games being played at home. The Women’s World Cup is expected to promote female sport across the country as well as show girls and women that it is possible to be a successful professional footballer.
