Heavy rainfall and strong winds have resulted in flash flooding across coastal and surrounding Sydney regions. Newcastle and The Hawkesbury region are two of the most affected areas. In Newcastle, emergency services were called to rescue 10 people trapped inside a bus that had become submerged in depths of floodwater. In The Hawkesbury, flooding and heavy rainfall has meant that the turfing industry has taken a severe hit.
Sitting down with turf farm owner Rickie Brown, he discussed the impacts of flooding upon his industry and looked back in time to earlier this year when a disastrous flood caused his business to cease work for a month.
