Bathurst Mardi Gras Celebrates Our Rainbow Community

Bathurst Mardi Gras has capped off a week of celebrations of the local LGBTQIA+ community with the Bathurst Pride ‘n’ Stride.

It started with the flying of the Rainbow Flag on the Evans Bridge with the support of the Lions Club of Bathurst.

Charles Sturt University again hosted the Queer Screen Film Festival at the Ponton Theatre, featuring 8 short films spanning a variety of genres.

The main event was the Bathurst Pride ‘n’ Stride parade, walking from Machattie Park and arriving at the Bathurst Library/Bathurst Regional Art Gallery forecourt for the gala event organised by Headspace Bathurst.

The event opened with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony performed by Wiradyuri Traditional Owners Central West Aboriginal Corporation. Market stalls, a BBQ, photobooth and live music from Martini Jones and Great Aunt created a vibrant celebration.

Drag queen Betty Confetti attended both events and led celebrations at the official after party at Keystone.
