Blind cricket players on the pitch at Eglinton

Bathurst Blind Cricket Community Challenge

The Community All Stars (including 2MCE’s Charlie Willis) took on the Social Futures/NDIA team on at Cubis Park in Eglinton on Wednesday with the return of the Bathurst Blind Cricket Community Challenge.

Scott Jones, former NSW Blind Cricket team captain told 2MCE Breakfast the event helps raise awareness of inclusive sports in our community.

“Blind cricket is just an avenue where rules can be modified, equipment can be modified, which makes it a lot more inclusive.”

“There’s a great array of sports for people with a disability…it is an avenue to get out there, be active, and be social,” he said.

Community members had the opportunity to have a go before watching the match. Sighted players wear special glasses that replicate different vision impairments to create an even playing field. All bowling is underarm with an audible ball.

A free BBQ lunch was enjoyed before the toss with game play well into the afternoon.
