ACT Election Presents Issues for University Students

By Madeleine Riddell

The ACT State election is set to take place on October 17th, with early voting polls set up to promote social distancing.

Postal voting has also been promoted to those eligible in the hopes Canberrans will want to avoid crowds during the pandemic.

University students living away from home have faced a new series of issues in the face of the election. Many students having to make the trip back to the ACT to ensure their vote is cast because their on-campus accommodation does not have a postal address.

Emily Knight, a student living away from home, has already experienced similar circumstances earlier this year during the Eden-Monaro election.

Ms. Knight says that the biggest issue she faced during the election was the struggle to keep up with the political landscape, saying access to local information was difficult while she was away from home.
